In Maryland, many family law matters are first heard by a Magistrate (formerly called an Examiner or Master), who issues a Report and Recommendation to the Circuit Court judge. Either party has 10 days from the date the report is filed to file written Exceptions — specific, written objections identifying the findings or recommendations the party believes are erroneous. Exceptions that are not filed timely are waived. This is one of the most time-sensitive filings in Maryland family law. An optional 30-minute phone consultation is available and is strongly recommended.
Includes:
Exceptions to Magistrate’s Report and Recommendation (specific objections to findings and recommendations)
Proposed Order Sustaining Exceptions
Certificate of Service
Step-by-step filing instruction letter
Notes:
CRITICAL: Exceptions must be filed within 10 days of the Magistrate’s report being docketed. Contact the firm immediately. DO NOT PURCHASE UNTIL YOU HAVE CONTACTED FAMILY FIRST LEGAL.
Client must provide a copy of the Magistrate’s Report and Recommendation and the hearing transcript if available.
Exceptions require specific objections to specific findings — general dissatisfaction is not sufficient.
Turnaround: 3–5 business days — contact us immediately given the 10-day deadline.
